Preserve Your Landscaping with Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement In The Pacific Northwest

Traditional sewer line repairs or replacements in Seattle are usually messy and disruptive. However, Second Opinion Sewer offers a better option: trenchless sewer repair. This method is effective, minimizes property disruption, and provides a long-lasting solution.

Our trenchless replacement uses either a CIPP liner, a process that forms a new, sturdy pipe within your existing one, or the pipe bursting method, which utilizes water pressure to expel the damaged pipe while replacing it with a more resilient, impenetrable casing. Contact our experts to discover the benefits of trenchless sewer repair and learn how these minimally invasive techniques can keep your Seattle home’s plumbing running efficiently for the long haul.

Types Of Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement In Seattle

What Is A CIPP Liner?

Installing a CIPP Liner (Cured-In-Place Pipe Liner) is a seamless, innovative process that rehabilitates your existing sewer lines without requiring extensive digging or damage to your property. Here’s the breakdown of how the process works:

Using a camera, we inspect your existing sewer line to get a precise layout of your piping system, assess the damage and ensure that CIPP liner is the best solution.

The existing pipe is cleaned thoroughly, usually with high-pressure water jetting. This step ensures the liner makes complete contact with the pipe and adheres properly.

The CIPP liner, a flexible tube saturated with a special resin, is prepared. The resin is a crucial component, as it hardens to form a tough, corrosion-resistant shell within your existing pipe.

We insert the resin-saturated liner into the sewer line. It’s done either by an inversion process, where the liner is turned inside out and pushed into the pipe, or by pulling in the liner with a cable.

Once the liner is in place, it’s inflated with an air bladder or water. The pressure from this inflation causes the resin-saturated liner to press against the inner walls of the existing pipe and take its shape.

The liner is then heated, usually by circulating hot water or steam inside it. This heat triggers the resin to harden, creating a new, seamless pipe within your old pipe.

After the liner has hardened and fully cured, we complete a final camera inspection to ensure the liner has adhered properly.  Then the job is ready for an inspection if required by local municipalities.

Note: Installing a CIPP liner is often done preventatively to avoid future damage.

The CIPP lining process is faster and less intrusive than traditional methods, as it doesn’t require extensive digging. This method preserves your yard, driveway, or sidewalk, saving time and labor costs. Additionally, the resulting liner is incredibly durable and improves the performance of your sewer system, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for sewer line repairs.

How Is Pipe Bursting Done?

Pipe bursting is a trenchless method of replacing sewer lines by breaking up the old pipe and pulling a new one through, minimizing disruption to your property. Here’s a step-by-step guide to the process:

First, we establish two access points, one at the start and one at the end of the section of the damaged pipe.

The old pipe is examined with a camera to understand its condition and pathway.

A cone-shaped, steel bursting head is attached to a new HDPE (High-Density Polyethylene) pipe. This bursting head is slightly larger than the old pipe.

We pull the bursting head through the old pipe. As it moves along, it fractures the old pipe and pushes the pieces into the surrounding soil.

Simultaneously, the new pipe is pulled into place following the same pathway as the old pipe.

Once the new pipe is in place, it’s connected to the rest of the plumbing system at the access points.

This process allows for replacing old, damaged pipes with new, more durable ones without extensive excavation, saving you time, money, and disruption to your property.
